Adding Infants to CalFresh Households

A SSN is not required to add an infant to a CalFresh household, and the household has at least 6 months to provide the infant’s SSN to the county.

If the infant is under 6 month’s old at the time of the household’s recertification, the household has until the infant is 6 months old to provide the SSN (or application for SSN, or good cause for not applying for a SSN) in order for the infant to continue getting CalFresh.

If the recertification happens after the infant is 6 months old, the household must provide the SSN (or application for SSN, or good cause for not applying for SSN) at recertification in order for the infant to keep getting CalFresh.
