A family of three attended one of our outreach events at a local food bank, where the mother connected with a member of our team and scheduled an assessment. During that conversation, the family shared that they were unhoused, living in their car, and that both parents were currently unemployed.
One of our application specialist from Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County assisted the family in completing and submitting applications for Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and cash aid. Since, they had no savings or access to immediate funds, their CalFresh application was expedited and approved within three business days, providing them with essential food assistance almost immediately. Soon after, they also gained access to healthcare coverage and financial support.
Although the family still resides in their vehicle, our team provided information about safe parking locations across the community. Today, they are on a housing waitlist, actively pursuing employment through an SSA program, and receiving support with after-school care. With these critical services in place, they have begun to feel hopeful about the future.
This essential assistance was made possible through the funding provided by this contract and the strength of our network of community-based organizations. Despite the ongoing challenges and uncertainty caused by the current administration, our dedicated staff remains committed to serving and uplifting our communities every day.
