Helping a Family Rebuild: Supporting a Mother Through Challenging Times

When a local mother came to Catholic Charities, she faced a perfect storm of life’s most difficult challenges: a divorce, a medical emergency that left her temporarily on disability, and the sudden responsibility of covering housing and utility costs on her own. With her college-aged daughter also struggling to find work, their pantry was empty and their future felt uncertain.

Feeling overwhelmed, she shared that the amount of paperwork required to apply for assistance felt like an impossible wall to climb. Through compassionate, one-on-one support, our team guided her through the process and helped her apply for CalFresh, ensuring every document was completed accurately and on time.

Soon after, the family began receiving full benefits. The mother shared that this support helped them stretch their limited budget and provide the nourishment they needed to stay healthy as they worked to rebuild their lives. She expressed that without the guidance and care from Catholic Charities, she might have given up.
