Hot Foods Waiver Approval for Affected Counties

Hello Everyone,

This update is for those who oversee the following counties in our network: Fresno, Los Angeles, Mendocino, San Diego, Napa, Sonoma, Imperial, Kern, Lake, Merced, Monterey, San Benito, Solano, and Yolo.

The Hot Foods Waiver will allow for hot, prepared foods to be purchased at SNAP authorized retailers through November 22, 2020. As a reminder, the Hot Foods waiver requires no county or consortia action. Required changes happen on the retailer side and county can support in getting the word out to clients.

Please note:

  • Retailers may need as much as 24-36 hours to make changes that will allow for sale of hot foods. Please set appropriate expectations when messaging hot foods availability to CalFresh participants.

  • FNS will be communicating and coordinating directly with retailers.

Attached is the waiver approval and the hot foods notice to SNAP authorized retailers for your reference.

CDSS will regularly post updates regarding CalFresh’s response to the wildfires on https://www.cdss.ca.gov/inforesources/calfresh/disaster-calfresh. The Outreach network will be notified when the Food Bank Flyer and the Hot Foods Flyer is updated on the website to reflect the above information in a forthcoming e-mail.
