Treatment of Pandemic Unemployment Compensation for CF eligibility

  • Jan 29, 2021

Please be aware of the policy change in the treatment of Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (PUC) extension payments for purposes of determining CalFresh eligibility.

The initial payments were authorized until July 31, 2020 and then reauthorized with a new expiration date of March 14, 2021. This reauthorization altered the rules governing the treatment of PUC payments for purposes of determining SNAP eligibility.

As a result, PUC payment must be excluded from consideration as income or a resource for the month of receipt and the following nine months (or January 1, 2021, through October 31, 2021).

Also note that the California Employment Development Department (EDD) refers to the PUC extensions payments as Pandemic Additional Compensation (PAC).
